As a helpful reminder, Chapter 13 is a bankruptcy that is referred to as a “restructuring” or “modification” of your debts through a monthly repayment plan. A chapter 13 bankruptcy in Illinois or Missouri generally has fewer restrictions to qualify than a chapter 7 bankruptcy.
A chapter 7 bankruptcy is commonly described as a “liquidation,” a “complete” or “full” bankruptcy, or the bankruptcy that “wipes everything out.” Though not entirely accurate, a chapter 7 bankruptcy is a type of bankruptcy in which a debtor (person who files for bankruptcy) must meet certain qualifications and have assets that can be fully exempted (protected) by state or federal law in order to safely eliminate all unsecured debts (i.e. credit cards, medical bills, payday/signature loans, etc.) or secured debts that you do not wish to keep (i.e. home mortgage and car loans).
